SUB: The Persistence of Memory

I realize this may seem off-topic from the bullshit that's been flying on the list these last few months, but bear with me for a minute. I want to talk about Dali. About his painting called "The Persistence of Memory," to be exact.

I've always been a huge fan of his work and, when the MOMA released the painting for that recent tour, I leaped at the change to go down the road and see it, versus traveling all the way across the country. Sure, I had to stand in line for four hours to get a ticket. Totally worth it, though.

Most of the critical theory argues that the picture is a reflection of Einstein's theory. You know, gravity's effect on weight and how that becomes mutable at the limits of time. But I think Dali had had an Oneiric experience. Hell, I think he had more than one. But the one that stuck with him is the soft watches. I think he fell through the fabric and got a little wet in the deepdark, and it scared the shit out of him.

It scares the shit of out me too, now.

And so he painted those watches, painted them as a reminder. And as a warning to never go that deep again.

But we all do, don't we? When we die, that's where we end up, isn't it? Part of that ocean of noise. And that's where half of us have gone already, right? The spam agents are just channeling the noise of the deepdark. They're hooked in, like radio receivers, and they're just transcribing all the voices.
